The Bionexia® GBS cassette is an immunologic one-step test kit for quick and qualitative determination of group B Streptococcus antigens (GBS) on swabs from pregnant women or newborns.
The Bionexia® GBS test cassette uses the immunologic sandwich assay technology for detection of group B Streptococci. The test holds a nitrocellulose membrane strip, coated with anti-Strep B antibodies IgG in the area of the test band and antibodies against the anti-Strep IgG in the area of the control band.
At one end of the membrane, there is a pad with colored polyclonal anti-Strep B antibody - colloidal gold conjugate. During the performance of the test, Strep B antigen is extracted from the swab by use of extraction reagents A and B and subsequently introduced to the cassette.
Here the Strep B antigen reacts with the colored antibody - gold conjugate, forming a Strep B antigen - antibody complex. By the action of capillary forces, the test mixture travels on the membrane to the immobilized anti-Strep B antibodies in the area of the test band.
